I recently read through an incomplete draft of a novel in progress, and it surprised me.

You’ve heard the phrase, “You are your own worst critic,” and (spoiler alert) it’s true. I’m one of those writers who is kind and encouraging with others yet ruthless and merciless with my own work. It’s rare that I read my own writing and feel confident about it.

But…
